Over the past two weeks I’ve recycled some old canvases and I have a few more I can change up. When I began the original pieces I didn’t really have a strategy. I had chosen subject matter but was less than thrilled with my execution so the pieces emerged but never got completed. These days I’m broadening my use of the acrylic medium - experimenting with all sorts of grounds, colors and textures. In the past I was always afraid of things not turning out the way I expected them to. I’m finally overcoming this fear. The trick is to let go of all expectations and go exploring. Although easier said than done, abstracts are great for this because they are more about playing with the medium - learning and letting the piece evolve itself. I’ve always been partial to acrylic because of it’s versatility and ease of clean up so it makes exploring more fun and less tedious. With that said, it’s time for me to go play!
